Its possible the heater core is plugged, but start with the basics first, replace the thermostat, make sure the heater valve under the hood is working (opening and closing), try back flushing the heater core, and see if you get good flow through it, if not then the heater core might be plugged and will need to be replaced.

thanks ...i have replaced the thermostat!! now this trk has been sitting for a long time in a field ... ther was a bunch of paper in the vents but i pulled all the ducting off and found there was alot of paper around the core so maybe its not letting the air flow through it ????? i guess i will have to pull the dash out
lol thanks .... i could try blowing it out with air first ???

If you do need to remove the dash its not that hard to do, theres a couple of hidden bolts you have to find and remove, but other than that its easy to do. Ive replaced the heater core in two 86 4Runners before and its more time consuming than anything else.
