headgasket gone!!!!!!!!

well i decided to go ahead and start tearing the 22r apart after all of the overheating and smokin issues. I got the head off today and it looks like the head gasket is done with. antifreeze sitting in the cylinders is not a good sign i assume. pistons have alot off carbon built up on the top of them also. i will post some pics later.

FYI when you pull off the head you will get some left over coolant in the cyl's.

Depends on how much coolant was in the cyl. and how well it was drained before hand. I think I had maybe less than a half inch of coolant in mine when I pulled my head.

how many miles were on it? Did you happen to do a compression check before you tore it apart?

if that's accurate, time for a rebuild. maybe even a valve job and or new head.

fyi head gaskets also fail between the oil passages and cyl walls. although somewhat uncommon.

need to hose the mud out from time to time. It insulates the engine and you have mud caked into your radiator with restricts cooling. Not a good combo.

Looks to me like #4 was getting a little bit of coolant, maybe early stages of HG failure. Xtreme is right, most oil burning issues are from the valve stem seals.

Hope to see some more pics of the build!
