Finally!!.... For any and everyone still following this, it's been a long road and didn't go quite like I wanted it, but it's running. It's running great and sounds awesome.

The problem: We went through trying to figure out the problem and after seeing that the fuel pump wasn't pumping much fuel out of the tank we replaced it. It still wouldn't run after this and we discovered that the injectors weren't receiving a signal. After going down the harness, we found the problem and got it fixed. We confirmed there was a signal at the injectors, but the engine still wouldn't start. We've been working on this off and on for a while trying to figure this out all while I'm going through my first semester of medical school. We played with it this past sunday and found that the line was kinked right above the gas tank. It must have happened when we reinstalled the tank. I feel kind of dumb not checking this, but I'm glad to have it done. The truck started right up after this...... Thanks again for everyone's help.

I just read the first few post and had to jump to the end and see where you were at. Apparently you took on a major rebuild and it is looking like you did a grea job. A huge CONGRATS!! I wish I would of known you were doing this thread. It is one I will go back and read each page. I could tell you were completely new to rebuilding and probably a little intimidated. Bet you have all kinds of confidence now. For the good and bad that I am sure happened along the way, doubt you will forget this anytime soon and looking back will be glad you did it. Congrats again.

Terry - I had no experience and it took me way longer than expected, but I got it done. Sorry it couldn't be more detailed, but I've got a nice page with part numbers and cost while I was trying to stay within a set budget....
This is something I will never forget.... Thanks again to everyone for their help...

The only problem I can see is a trans leak that'll take a little work. It's coming from the bell housing so I'm not sure what to fix if anyone has suggestions. Thanks again!

Ok guys.... I've got a major leak from the tranny. It's constantly dripping from the bell housing and the only thing I can think is that it's the main front seal to the tranny which is another big hurdle to jump..... What do you guys think? It's draining my tranny fluid in about 2-3 days..... Thanks!!

can you see where it's coming from. I know with the AUTO we have lines on top of the bellhousing??/ right??? that run to the radiator??? right? I think I'm remembering this right.

 

I know I know... The engine sounds great though. I think there are some lines running above the trans. I know whatever it is I've got to get it fixed in a hurry because at this rate I'd go through trans fluid in 2-3 days. It's a steady drip from the bell housing.... I haven't been able to get in there and get a closer look, but will this weekend. I'll let you know what I find.....

 

I changed a frot tranny seal on a dodge along time ago. No idea if it is anything like a Toyota. If it is it would be an easy job. Sorry I cant answer that for you.

Great video and will be some great memories for you. Look at where you were then starting to tear it down and how you were feeling about what you were about to get into thinking " What am I getting myself into?" til now, a motor rebuild " Ahhh, no biggie" lol. Great Job. You will still enjoy hearing it run a year from now and knowing what all is happening under the hood.

 

Thanks Terry!.... I love having my truck, but I've got to figure out this leak. I've got a little time tomorrow where I'm going to get under the truck and take a look. I'll report back with what I find..... I'll try and get some pics as well. You're right though Terry.... I couldn't be prouder of all the work we've done......

Hi, sorry to revive an old thread, but I have a question:

My 22r 4x4 1987 blew the head gasket. Is it stupid to replace the hg without doing the timing belt? The timing belt and guides look good and I'd hate to disturb them... also, super tight on money.
