Im in the process of replacing head gaskets on my 95. Stuck on getting the cross pipe and exhaust manifolds off. Any tips or tricks to the removal of them?

I heard from a buddy the cracked collar was from unbolting them in the wrong sequence? I dont know if there is any truth to that but I am getting ready to do a rebuild on a 93 4 runner so if anyone knows it would be great info.

Rebuilt 3vze w/no head gasket

Newly acquired 4 runner. Previous owner had motor out of it and rebuilt himself. Acording to him he did not put a head gasket at all in it. Something like the guys that refinished heads for him told him that the head gasket is not required because of such small "tolerances". Sound crazy to me. Help. Do I need them. I say yes.

i have also began this long project of replacing a head gasket. i am currently in the rebuild and was wondering if you have any more picture of putting everything back together. also what would you recommend on doing to replace missing bolts and nuts? the kid who had this 4runner before me lost some and didn't bother replacing them... let me know thanks

hey sorry for the long delay. I never received notifications for any of these responses. I only have the photos that were posted to this thread. everything else was deleted a while ago....

good news though. the head gaskets are holding up great....just have coolant issues and overheating now. so I wish you all the best of luck in fixing your issues. Its a love hate thing when it comes to working on cars. you win some and lose some haha.

Ebay. Mizumo parts or something like that. It was a big gasket kit. pretty much every gasket for the top end.

sorry for the delay....dont check this much often...I now have issues in need of researching but to answer your question. I removed the passenger side head after unbolting it from the crossover pipe. then removed the driverside head with the crossover pipe attached to it. easier said than done. might need an extra hand to take them off and put them back on.

Ive heard about that too. There are two ways I read on the "proper" sequence. the factory manual has the best sequence but I'm not too sure....hope to not have to take them off again. it was pretty tedious.

replacing bolts and nuts. go to pick a part or a auto wrecking yard and pull the ones you are missing. probably the fastest way. or you can try and match them up with bolts at a store. just be sure to select the proper grade.
