Gotta smog... CA questions.

I have a downey header. The o2 sensor was welded off, because my O2 sensor is back by the cat and is still plugged in.

I also have my EGR temp sensor blocked off with an 8 ohm resister.

Assuming they ignore the O2 block off, is their computer going to fail me based on the EGRTS not throwing a code due to the resistor?

i have some good old boys in town that will over look it.... im just worried about computer readings.

This on the 92 or 94? 3.0 or 22RE? Just curious... as I have no EGR sensors... But really? If you have buddies like that.... WOW, cuz even my close friend of 20 years who owns a shop said, just last week, 'HELLLLLLLL NO!'.... "too risky, man.... They are REALLY ramping up the fines/watching us/sending in spies/and they're talking JAIL now! They're even smogging diesels in CA. now, due to C.A.R.B...... grrrrr" and some explatives, lol. However, I went to a shop and they said I'd be fine, considering I have the EGR all hooked up and 02 working and C.A.R.B. stamp on the LCE header.... He said, "without that stamp, you AUTO FAIL", lol.

I can't tell ya on the EGR thingy.... Since you have a resistor... does it fool the ECU into thinking it's there? If so, whatcha worried about? (Sorry, not being 'smart',...I'm seriously asking cuz I don't know, lol)

Does this 8ohm resistor allow the EGR to do it's job?

With a NonOp EGR your combustion temperatures are going to be very high which in turn is going to make your NOx readings very high.

i think the egr tube is just clogged a bit, so the temp sensor gets a mesed up reading. the light has stayed off for 1000+ miles so i guess its happy?

Play dumb, you bought it that way.

The visual is silly. I had a guy try to fail me in ca because he didn't know the check engine light on a Chevy says "service engine soon" instead.

Half these guys don't really know what to look for.

yeah...no joke.

Our 2006 dodge diesel had to have its first "smog"
The test? One guy rev's the engine, the other guy stood by the exhaust and said "looks good!"
When we brought it in with the DMV notice they both looked as puzzled as me..."But its a diesel?" they said.

$75 for two guys to look at the exhaust.... Another reason why we are out of here soon

Your truck is not OBD-II(which is '96+), so they don't hook it up to an ECU scanner. You will, however, fail if the CEL is on.

Believe it or not guys, this is why CARB mandates visual checks. I hate them too and still question the effectiveness, but I at least understand their reasoning. Now, smog checks for pre-cat diesels....that's just a way to generate revenue.
