This is an easy way to fix the attachment method used to secure the grill, mine is held in
place by 2 screws and 9 plastic clips, all of which have broken and have left the grill flopping
around, I decided to get rid of all the plastic clips and replace them with screw clips.






















Common Phillips screws fit through the holes in the grill without needing to drill them larger
and hold the grill securely in place

 

That will work just fine. I'm actually a fan of the grille clips. If mine break out, I'd be inclined to buy me some new ones.

 

Uh, the correct replacement clips are less than a buck at the dealer, and about a dime (!!, including shipping!) aftermarket.

Not long ago, finding odd parts like this was so difficult that you either went without (floppy grill), or like pursang put in some time and cleverness for an alternate fix. Today, you can look up the actual part number, then searching that will bring you (often) to a very reasonable source. pursang is correct noting that these clips are frequently broken at 20+ years. For $2 you can be all set.

 

I think OP is doing this because the parts on the GRILLE are broken, not the clips. With out the proper supports on the grille, the dealer supplied clips do not work

 

What ever happened to the traditional zip-tie fix??? lol

I also detest hidden fasteners with a passion, so I eliminate then as I go. For my grille, I used nylon expansion nuts, instead of metal clips. The size used to mount the license plate is just about right.
Also doing same with my door panels as I replace the velour dust magnet with simple spray and wipe vinyl...

 

A couple of the parts on my grille are broken like yours but I had enough to hold the last time I put it on. I have to take it off one more time after I reseal my AC compressor and if I break anymore of them I'm either going to have to use your method or use some expansion nuts.
