power doors keep unlocking??

Hello. So i am trying to unf*** all the electronic gremlins in my toyota. Today after installing a new battery and alternator, i attempted to lock my doors and every time i press lock, the doors will lock and then unlock 2 seconds later. This is with the truck on/off. I did this on both driver and passenger door. No clue how it happened. Any ideas?

This is with you in the truck and both doors closed ??

If I remember correct if you have the door open and don`t close it they will act just like you describe

It will also happen if one of the door switches is failing to open it appears like the door is open to the door lock relay.

Yes this is with doors opened or closed. Perhaps it is the switch failing. I haven't driven my truck in a month or so. Hence the new battery lol. Thanks for your input. I'll search around for a junked switch

It can also be a broken wire

poor connection

after all the wires do go into the door opening and closing for 26 years does put wear on things.

Find out what is wrong before buying parts you might not need

If the key is still in the ignition (or the truck thinks it is) it will do that.

My 91 4Runner does this occasionally too; I know your frustration.

Key out of the ignition, hit the lock button, sometimes everything immediately unlocks; other times I shut the door and it immediately unlocks; other times yet, I hit the button, close the door "pretend to walk away" and they unlock a second or 2 later; then there are the times that everything just works as it should.

I know I should spend the 5-10 minutes to take the door panel off and watch the various components with a multi-meter to see what's happening, but it just hasn't been THAT big of an issue to me (it's been like this for the last 3-4 years for me).

If you figure out what it is, I'm certainly interested to hear more.

I recently purchased a 93 4Runner, and I'm having the same issue. My time is a premium , as I work 14 hours a day. Does anyone know of a couple of quick tests that I can do, with specific directions so I can maximize my available time when I troubleshoot this issue?

It's probably a bug in one of your switches either like the key in ignition safety or door switch but I do have a 4runner that's locks will act crazy when it's been raining for days on end. They lock, unlock, lock, lock, unlock etc. The truck stays damp inside when it's been out in the rain so I know I have a cab leak somewhere and I'm sure the moisture is getting to the lock controller. It will drain the battery while it's doing this. If I catch it doing it, I just pull the door lock fuse. You might perceive this issue as a random lock after a couple seconds but have you ever just stood still and watched it after you hear it do it the first time and see if it cycles the locks again after that? Does it do it more often when it's wet outside? I doubt you have the same thing going on, but just giving you something else to consider.
