Ding, ding, ding....
Yeah...it's been there a little while now.
Hey...I just read in another thread that you won't see much if any gain from installing just a cam without also porting the head and oversized valves. Any thoughts on that, Kirk?

I would also like to know if I will see any gains. Its only a 115hp engine so 5 extra HP would help quite a bit...any torque gain would be sweet
Maybe I should talk to engnbldr???

Ted or Todd....either person would know.
There's a thread going on by Luvmeye22re that goes into this a little. I'll see if I can find it. It's the one where I read what I stated above.
Here it is:https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...needed-147657/

Oh....yeah....definite improvement. I'd wondered if grey was going to be the final color. Black will look good.
Atleast tape off the tire when you do it. It'll come out much cleaner looking.

lol...I do think I got some good shots though
(I washed it!)

I think I'm going to be building front and rear bumper for my truck...it will slowly turn into a prerunner

And...I am also considering painting this piece black...what do you think? I know this is way off topic of my engine thread...lol. I just am waiting to get a job to get "enough" money to rebuild it. I've got enough for the rebuild and thats it...I would like more money for the cam and such...lol

Okay, I sent an email to Ted at engnbldr about if porting and installing bigger valves was necessary to absolutely get power out of the head. Here is what he said...(copy and pasted!)
Morning!
These engines are highly sensitive to porting. A very well thought out port
job can add power potential but note the larger effect is on the upper RPM
ranges.
Most folks simply rarely use the upper RPM ranges, so our goal has always
been good low end to midrange responses. Some of our good competitors try
for maximum power but most engines are seldom driven at maximum power so the
question becomes, what is the goal?.
Our StreetRV head is not ported as an example, but it is equipped with
slightly larger valves. This does improve flow at the bowl and helps the
flame front across the head of the piston. Simply angles there is all there
is to it combined with increased storage volume behind the valve head..
We see a steady gain of 5 H/P with our StreetRV over our stock Pro head, and
even more potential when combined with a cam matching the driving style and
an improved exhaust.
I wish I could say the gains are huge, they are not, yet they are
noticeable. The very best gains are in the pipe size itself, and there is
no doubt there at all. You are correct, a nice cam with a stock head and
better exhaust works just fine to add 10-20 H/P to the wheels and that
really does get noticed.
If in the budget, go with the larger valves, that helps too. If not, then
your approach is just fine.
Thanks,
Ted
