So ever since I put my body lift in, my gas filler neck dripped a few drops out of the top, where the filler neck attaches.

Now its gotten worse and a heavy gas odour is very evident. When its full it will drip out if I park it on anykinda incline.

So, my plan was to cut the rubber hose, put in a 4" peice of pipe and use hose clamps to seal it back up..

question one, does this seem like the best way to go around this? Im not exactly rich so.. cheaper is better

question two, what kind of pipe should I use? Obviously I can't use any regular kind of steel as it would rust.... galvanized??

Question three, there is a little hose beside the filler neck, this is a little loose and want to address it. Problem is it looks like the hose has frayed or something, there is crap all over it.....

Why not just lift the gas tank? You got the body lift.

i had the same problem with my body lift. except one day when i was filling up some dude came running screaming cuz i was filling the ground with gas cuz the fillier neck came right off. soi got a 2.5" to 2" (i think) plumbing adapter from canadian tire for less than $10. been fine since.

i know what you mean. i had to find a way to get gas into my tank in a friggin blizzard last winter. it works so perfectly its like its meant to be. to be more clear its a soft rubber coupler not the stiff plastic.

 

I've got a 3" body lift as well. I have to say, I've noticed the smell of gas around the filler area, and I never clued in why.
I loosened my filler neck a bit but the screws were impossible to move any further so I just said oh well, let's see if it works and continued with the lift.
I tried to re-tighten them but I was just stripping the screws.
This explains it, I probably have a gap in there.

 

Alright, so you just slipped the 2.5" end onto the tank and then the 2" end slips into the stock rubber filler neck?

I will eventually lift the tank but I don't have time to deal with that right now

 

yeah but dont quote me on the size. i cant remember exactly. mine attached from the metal filler neck at the gas cap to the rubber hose that goes into the tank. i'll check the size for you tomorrow. maybe snap a pic.

 

Im just worried about a good seal at the rubber/rubber connection. Seems a hose clamp would just crush the inner rubber coupler no?

I would like it to be reversable since I do plan on lifting the gas tank eventually. I need a new job!

 

all i used was a hose clamp. works. might not be a perfect seal but its better than pouring gas on the ground and its just a screwdriver install/removal

 

Hokay, so I went up to crappy tire and looked for a coupler to finally fix this, they had nothing.

So I went to Rona and got a 2-1.5" coupler. I put the small end on the metal spout comming off the tank, and slipped the filler hose into the bigger end. I tightend it down as well as I could (the rubber coupler started to crush the filler hose, looks like there is a small gap).

If I can still smell the gas as bad as it was then I will have to do something about that. If not then I guess its fixed

 

Obviously a different application, but I used exhaust tubing, and fuel hose with hose clamps. No leakage.

 

I had thought of using a peice of exhaust pipe to splice in. But I was worried about rust problems..

So the stock rubber hose(s) don't reach...?
Get stainless pipe to fit inside the hose(s) and cut the hose then put the stainless inside with maybe a little sealant and hose clamps. If / when you 'undo' the lift, just loosen the clamps on the hose and let it slide back together. voila! Done! Far cheaper than figuring out how to lift the fuel tank and re-route those fuel lines, and let's you lift the body and return back to stock without worrying about crap.

 

I bought galvanized and then welded it outside with a fan blowing

And no. zero problems. Although, keep in mind that mine is 100% contained within the truck. No real way to get water into it to rust.

 

Or I can just do what I did Install a rubber fitting onto the tank spout and attached it to the filler neck. Now when I lift the tank I just have to remove the fitting and slip the filler neck back onto the tank

I was told that there is always a small amount of water in gas, so I didnt wanna take any chances...
