Exhaust flood...
... Hey y'all,
Just picked up a '92 4Runner 4x4 'bout a week ago,
went mudding today since it was raining out and those days are
precious here in the AZ, and got bogged out in a trench.
Water up most of the exhaust and the thing died on me, had it towed out
by an '08 Tundra and it hasn't started yet.
The water wasn't any more than 2.5 feet high but got enough of the way
up the pipes to kill it. The good semaritan that stopped to pull me out
thought that the water had gotten onto the battery and shorted it out
but I'm still getting power from that. Does anyone know what it could be?
And what I should do to get this wonder back up and running?

did you really have to post twice? if anyone wanted to help you they would do it when they saw your first post....
with that being said. what do you mean it wont start. like the engine wont turn over or it turns over but wont fire up and run?

ok so it turns over so its not hydo locked. next your gonna wanna look at spark. make sure all your sparkplug wires are seated on the spark plugs. and remove the distributer cap to make sure its not full of water.(if dry put back on for the next time you try to start it. you need this part) and make sure your air filter is dry

Sparks are seated fine,
my neighbor (yota freak) said something about the filter too,
thats probably it.

a fipk wont get you more than about 5hp and cost about 300 or so. looks like you might wanna add a snorkel tho. yea check the dizzy cap and we can go from there

first thing that came to my mind. water in the exhaust will drain out fairly quickly. and its not hydro locked. so its either fuel or spark. or he broke something lol something could be wet and shorting out and causing it to not run

My very first time going mudding in my first Toyota many years ago I did the same thing. I could keep it running but it would stall if i didn't give it gas. Dried out the dist. cap and everything was fine.

iv never killed the my 4rnr. my first time mudding with my f150 my buddy shattered his flywheel in his chevy tho lol. but thats off topic, so if this guy will get on here telling us if his dizzy was dry or not we could go from there.. oh and change your diff fluid that watter cant be good for it(im guessing your avatar is your truck stuck in the water hole)

I'm fixing to check the cap and the filter,
but the rig is at my Dad's house and I'm at my Mom's.
I'll probably have that stuff done by morning but it's gonna be a while
before I can get to it. My father towed it to his house and left it there.

ok got cha. so when you get to your rig. check the distributor cap. make sure its not wet. if it is dry it out. you can search on here im sure you can find out how. then make sure your air filter isnt wet. if it is buy a new one, i wouldn't reccomend a whole intake kit. not really worth it. but if you want it get it. i say just buy a k&n drop in filter. and search on this site for "isr mod" and "deck plate mod" (i dont reccomend the deck plate mod if you plan on being in much more water)
they will do just as good as a k&n intake. and check your fluids for water. if its got water in it and its not supposed to have water in it replace it.

Get a can of WD40 and spray the distributor out real good.
Also, if you have the older 2 piece style igniter, take it apart and spray it out as well. Water can get in there and short it out. Seal it back up with silicone.
And just because it can turn over, doesnt mean its NOT hydrolocked. But it will make a hell of a racket if it has some water in the cylinders. You should have pulled the spark plugs and turned it over to shoot out the water before anything.
