Engine pull with trans, transfer case?

Hey all,
I've got a 1986 4runner and have got everything disconnected and the engine ready to come out. I decided I want to pull the trans with it, and possibly the transfer case. I have seen plenty of guys on hear pulling the engine/trans, but in my searching I can't find anyone plucking the transfer case too. Can it be done? Is it easier to detach the transfer case before? If it helps it is a 22re with 5 speed trans.

You'd need a high lifting picker and a screw drive to change the motor/trans angle.

Me, I'd just crawl under and unbolt them both. Really only takes like 10 minuets each.

I agree with SoCal, get under there and pull them out, It will make pulling the motor much easier

You also have to do Crazy angles to pull/install them all together. I'll never do it again.

Thanks guys. I ended up leaving the transfer case in and pulling the engine/trans together, worked great. I'm glad I chose this way that would have sucked if I tried to take the transfer case with it. I started a build thread check it out: jnew911's 1986 4runner build-up thread.

I took all 3 out at the same time when i pulled them out of a 1st gen. Wasn't hard at all, one guy was underneath pulling the trans down to make a steep angle, the other guy jacked the motor up.. simple enough.

Yes, did the same with my 2nd gen 4runner, 3.0. Steep angle, but did all 3 at once. Needed 3 people.
