A quick background for everyone...

I fix and maintain people's toyotas (and occasionally other cars) to help myself pay for college. I'm very familiar with them but i'm not by any means 100% expert on them. However, my knowledge is pretty good and it's not my first rodeo.

So today, i thought i'd share this guys toyota 4runner. He wanted me to replace the water pump on it.

Straight forward right? No problem.
But wait... why is the water pump bad in the first place?

Because he (or whoever) thought i'd be a good idea to put head gasket sealent, probably steel seal / blue devil in his engine...

Lol i just had to share... some people right?

However, i said i'd do the job, so i continued it and told him afterwards. He denied it Lol.

Anyway thought i'd share this everyone on yotatech
Just do the d*mn headgaskets...

better edit the bottom of your first post. before the yotatech profanity police get you.

why in the world (not how i'd really say it) would the idiots not use the gasket that comes with the water pump?

I have a friend that's a mechanic who had a girl bring in a Camry that went 20,000 miles plus on an oil change because she heard that Toyotas run forever...

Gotta love the things people do

Yup....and then it goes everywhere the coolant goes. Want to take a guess what the heater core and the passages in the radiator look like?

Looks like someone tried to buy time on a blown head gasket, IMO. That stuff will likely kill the new water pump in short order too. Evil Blue, I call it.
