Engine Light, What does it mean?

The engine light on my 93 3.0L P/U recently turned on and I can't figure out why it would be on. I replaced the radiator, the hoses, and the thermostat about a month ago after the stock radiator blew the top seam out. I was wondering if anyone knew what could be causing the check engine light to come on.

I purchased the diagnosis tool and should be receiving it by the end of the week. Are some codes more common than others on the 3 liter?

You don't need the tool, but it's nice to have one.

In the grey diagnostic box....next to the fuse box under the hood.....jump/short the TE1 and E1 terminals. Turn the key on and count how many times the CEL flashes.

As far as the search feature, it's always encouraged to use it because often you can get more answers than you would in one single thread......and much more quickly. In which case, you will see that there are a lot of reasons the CEL can come on.

NO. Don't buy a new gas cap, and no, it's not always emissions. As Matthew stated, pull the codes by counting the flashes of the CE light. (Run a search on check engine light codes or "diagnostic codes" and you'll see how this is done). Or wait until you get your diagnostic tool. Either way, post back up what you find here, and we'll try to help you trouble shoot.

Don't just throw parts at it.

Besides, a bad gas cap won't throw a code on a 2cnd gen.

Or take it to the VatoZone and they can code check it. Then you are already at the parts store to get what you need.
