EGR temp sensor

I remember reading about being able to put a resistor in that will make the ecu think it is there but cant find the thread. Just need to know the resistor size that was being used. seems like i remember it was a 10k ohm. Someone that has done this please verify. I am not looking for reason to or not to do this just the resistor size...thanks KG

Yes, 10k ohm. I've heard many say that amount of resistance will eliminate getting code 71.

Yes, it's 10,000 ohm resistor. I've been using one for 2 years now with no check engine light. You can pick up a PACK of them at Radio Shack for about $2.

It you have one it is threaded into the egr tube with a two wire connector.

Ok about this whole EGR thing. My truck has been having some idlin issues and to basically sum it all up, if i unplug the vaccum line running to the top of the EGR, my truck runs fine? would it be ok just to pop a 10 ohm resistor in he line and drive my truck?

Ok i have my egr blocked off and the check engin light stays on would like to see some pics on how to do this with a simple write up with what to do. I would love to get the check engine light of it gets on my nerves LOL

It's not hardly worth a write-up or pics. But if you insist, here's the rundown:

1. Unplug the EGR gas temperature sensor, letting the pigtail hang free.
2. Place a 10k ohm resistor in the engine wiring harness connector end(to the ECM) between the two exposed terminals. Securing/sealing it in some fashion inside the connector, so it doesn't fall out or corrode(solder, tape, glue, RTV, etc.).
3. Run the engine and see if the CEL has gone out.

Here's all the pics you need:

I didnt take it off its blocked off. The top vac hose i put a small ball bearing in. After a put the cam in i could get it to idle nice but it would run correctly. With it blocked off it idles and runs perfect

Thanks mudhippy the only reason i asked is cause i dont know squat about electrical wiring on car/trucks. So just unhook the plug and put the 10k resistor in making sure it don't come loose.
