early 22r to late 22re swap help
Hi all, looking for some help. Apparently I am not very good at searching because I cannot find Terry's RE to R swap in the search results as per another thread I read (https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f158...r-22re-303449/ Second Post in). If someone has got a link I would consider buying you a beer! I am looking to swap an early 22r (I think it is an 83, I will verify next week) into my 1992 extended cab 4wd with 5spd manual trans. Got the motor for a song and am really looking forward to rebuilding it over the summer but I am not sure what all I need to know for the swap.
Can I use my existing flywheel.
will my 1992 5spd manual trans and bell housing bolt up?
I got a million other questions but cant think of anything else right now. Thanks for any input!

Here is Terrys87 22R to 22R-E Conversion Thread that I remember. It is in the reverse order than you would be going.
I am sure that there will be differences that you will run into. You will probably read through it and have a million more questions.
Terrys87 might have done a write-up going the other way but I can't remember.

Yes your flywheel will work !!
Bell housing will bolt up
The area of fuel delivery is where things get interesting
You need to reduce the pressure from the EFI pressure to the lower carb pressure

@old87yota thanks for the link! Ive got the summer to figure it out, should be a lot of fun!
@wyoming9 Fantastic! Thanks for those seriously positive notes! Those were my two main concerns as the 22r is missing its flywheel. As for fuel pressure, Can I not just use the old school mech pump on the side of the head? or do I need a lift pump as well. Rock auto sells both a 12 volt electric pump and the mechanical but I was under the impression that it was either or. My old cars from my youth never had an electric pump plus the mechanical. Cheers!

@Jakey_poo thanks for the feedback. I know about the electric fuel pump in the tank, I was thinking I could just disconnect its power supply and run solely off the mech pump. What is an FPR? Cheers

Fuel pressure regulator, it would keep your electric pump from over running your carb. They're not that expensive to add. I would definitely go this route over trying to run the mechanical pump. Why not just run the EFI?
