Early 22r head on a late 22r block?

Early 22r head on a late 22r block?

I have tried to research this everywhere possible and I cant seem to come up with much. I have read this: loss of compression and it needs a longer timing chain. I picked up the early 22r head for $50, not knowing there was a difference in the heads. Will it bolt up to my late 22r block? I know its taller than the old one. Is there anything else that I need other than a timing chain? What would the loss of compression be? Do I try to swap it out for a later style head.

it will bolt up yes, loss of compression not sure how much, exhaust manifold wont work either. ANd if its an 81-82 head the intake wont work either. There will be no timing chain to fit. Get the right head before you give yourself a headache. Oh and even with a loss of compression it will probably ping like an SOB due to the fact your quench area changed in size. There was just someone on here trying to do something similar and insisted it would work. I told him make a build thread for it, I have yet to see it. I guess the machinist hee said that was gonna do the work, finally figured out it would not work.

Sweet thanks. The intake does work cuz I already bolted it up but I will be in the market for a different one then.

I dont need weeping or gnashing hahaha. I jus need this darn thing runnin again. Its been 3 months and its lookin all kinds of sad jus sittin out there in front of the shop.

how much taller is the early head compare to late head ?

I know that late block are shorter by 3/16 than the early block
is early head more than 3/16, even 1/4 taller than late head ?

I'm stock with same problem here! late block and early head.
I haven't begin my work on the engine yet, i'm trying to figure out everything before I begin.

How about timing cover ? would it bolt on this mix of block/head ?

I still have my late head here and i'm trying to lower my compression, would it be easier to cut into the late head combustion chamber to make it look like early head ?

After alot of research I jus gave up. I was told by many to swap to a late head, so I did. You will never find a timing chain. Why would you want to lower your compression?

Why do people insist on trying to make this work. IT DOES NOT. Any attempt to make it work is just a waste of money and time.

I haven't tried yet , that why i'm asking.
I need to lower my compression to go turbo
I've bought turbo piston, but I want to increase combustion chamber cc from 54 to 80 or so to match the turbo head which is pretty hard to find.

So, anybody have tried to cut into late head combustion chamber and enlarge it ? make it look like a turbo combustion chamber ?

How much boost are you planning on running that you need to lower the comp ratio that much?

I've read in toysports documentation that it could handle 17 to 20lbs easely
I'm planning to be conservative at 13, 14lb maybe.

That's why I'm asking all these questions. I need to figure everything out before I begin my work. I don't want to waste too much $
