Driveline vibration

My truck recently developed a vibration. it seems to be worse from 2000 to 3000 rpms and while i'm on the gas. I believe its coming from the drive shaft or rear end. Its kinda odd... you can almost feel it vibrate then stop at regulator intervals. Best way to describe it would be verrrrp, 2,3, verrrrrp, 2, 3. (Verrp being my vibration noise, 2 and 3 being no vibration) Most noticeable 20-40 mph. My truck is a 94 4x4 3.0 5spd. and is bone stock.

I greased the fittings on the driveshaft, but couldn't get grease to go in one of the center ones. My mechanic told me that the joint there is probably seized and causing the problem. He said while it spins it will bind then loosen up. Thinking this maybe my problem. Anyone else come across this? Also while greasing the driveshaft i noticed it has about 3/4" of slop in the rear end...maybe 3rd member is on its way out? truck has 143k

Thanks!

The bad u-joint will cause most of your vibration. You didn't noitce any play in your u-joints? there should be none. A worn out rear generally won't vibrate.. it will usually sing a song to you.

Joints seem to be okay. i was told you could take the joint apart to grease it, or they make a Zerk Zapper tool that you wack with a hammer. drives gease in if you don't bust off the fitting while hitting the Zerk Zapper

Tires out of balance?
What size? How are they wearing? Do you wheel it?

I've only driven the truck about 1000 miles. Just got it on the road before Xmas. The tires seem to be wearing okay. Doesn't feel like a tire vibration. Truck has 225/75 15 tires. Haven't hit any trails with it yet. It has only had one other owner and he was very easy on truck. Definitely hasn't been abused.
