Dipstick Issue
Hey was wondering if anyone had an idea why my dipstick won't read oil levels correctly. I have an '88 pickup, got in good condition and dipstick worked previously for me.
but one day i realized about a week after i put oil in it, it read none at all. no leak, and no oil warning light. so i would put more in and it would read fine... but a week later same thing.
now it wont read any level whatsoever, even if i just put oil in and its cooled down and on level ground. when its warmed up i get a thin diagonal line starting from the bottom of the stick going about halfway up the whole thing; but covering not even half the width of the stick.... if that makes sense. any ideas?

have you checked if the dispstick tube is well mounted to the block? mine was a bit loose and just pulling the dipstick out to check the level would take the tube out of its position. the problem is that not only is secured to the block by the actual hole it goes in but it has a bracket and its dificult to tell if it is on or off the hole. (excuse any taping mistakes, inglish is not my native language)
