I have a dent in the back quarter of my bed. It's a big (size of a frisbee) dent, but it doesnt have any creases or bends.

I'd get a picture for you all, but it's a slight bend and I would need some good lighting to let you guys see the foll scope of the bend. Even then, truck needs a good washing before you can see the bend.

My question is can I go under the bed and with a rubber mallet tap these dents out?

I've gone under the truck before and tried pushing them out, but i need to pound them out. What's the best way to do this?

The reason I'm worried about this section is because I want to get some JRU (Jeep Rescue Unit) stickers from http://www.jamesdeancreations.com/logos.htm#yotatech and I wanted this area to be dent free, otherwise I'd run into trouble placing the decal there.

 

should be able to bang it if you can't push it but you might loose some paint

 

Was actually going to spray paint the whole thing anyway. No worries there.

 

Oh cool. Well it's worth a try. If all else fails, whip out the bondo

 

Or you can buy 1 of those big suction cup dent pullers. They are pretty cheap, and just 'bout every autoparts house carries 'em.

 

Thought about that, but that's almost the price of a gallon of bondo mix. Bondo works, and this dent puller might not.

 

If you can't get to the back of it and push it out then what I do is this:
Weld a washer to the dent and then use a slide hammer or equivlent and bang it out. Grind the washer off.

This is the method i've seen done to deeper dents, but I don't have a slide hammer, a grinder, or a welder. It's the method I'd like to learn to do, though.

Living in an apartment building, I have no place to store a grinder and a welder.

Cheap, easy, fast, effective

If you can get behind the dent and it's in between the interior and exterior panels, purchase a cheap basketball or soccer ball, deflate it and shove it up behind the dent.
Now inflate the ball until the dent is pushed out.
Viola! Paintless, putty less dent removal!

That's pretty nifty. I might actually have to try that, because it is on a panel that has some space between it and the frame.

 

I may be cheap, easy, fast and effective, but I'll take exception to anyone trying to do that with MY balls.
