cv joints possibly?

I have a 91 toyota 4x4 with a 22re. I'm getting a loud noise from the front left wheel at 60 kilometers an hour and above. the noise goes away if i hit the brakes and slow to 50 ish, if i just coast the noise doesn't go away until a much lower speed, turning and bumps in the road also make the noise go away. I'm thinking its a cv as a wheel bearing would be always loud

Any ideas??

coast in circles in a parking lot. does it make a clicking sound? and is there grease everywhere because theres a tear on the cv boot?

if yes to the clicking, yes, its the cv. if grease everywhere, OH YEAH, its the cv

search "cv joint", "cv joint replacement", "replacing cv joint", etc for some answers.

And if you really want to know for sure remove the front axle shafts and go for a drive. If the noise has gone then it was the CV, if it's still there it could be wheel bearings or spindle bushings.

Yes, it is probably your CV Axles. Take a good look and see if there are any cracks in the boots.
If so, you need to replace the axle. I just finished doing this last weekend. The axles were $80 per side.
It was a relatively easy job, and I put new bearings in while I had everything apart.

I have a broken cv right now.. not even a month after I replaced the other side, this one went out on me. I bought the first cv from advance auto parts for $89 w/ liftetime warranty and went back the other day to buy the other one. Apparently the company that rebuilds the axles (for advance, autozone, etc.) went bankrupt and he said it could take 2 weeks or more to get ahold of one. I know I could buy a new one from the dealership, but I don't have the $$ to do that so I guess I'll keep looking around. Anyone have any ideas of places that might carry them for under $100??
