Use the search feature. You'll read about a possible Porche axle swap. Some people say that T-100 axles are a little beefier and will fit. The aftermarket crap that you'll find at autozone etc., is just that, crap. I have had good results with my OEM axles. Personally, if I were to break one, I'd go to a junk yard and find a used OEM replacement.

Check out CV Unlimited at http://www.cvunlimited.com/

They have alloy outer shafts for the 86-95 IFS trucks and 4Runners. Problem is, with changing to their stronger outer shafts, the weak point then becomes the short passenger side stubby inner shaft - the short shaft on the right side of the diff that the whole axle assembly bolts to. I broke 3 of those (about $95 each from Toyota) running CV Unlimited outers, Summers Brothers custom alloy axles, Porsche inners with 35" tires before I got fed up and went SAS!

Personally I'd rather pay the $90 at NAPA, than the $400 from Toyota. Sure the OEM ones are really good, but they certainly arn't 4 times the price better. Plus, it you are breaking axles (not just tearing boots, I mean breaking!) on a regular basis, it's time to think about upping to a solid axle.

As for getting one from a junk yard, your funeral. You can't rebuild the outer joint, so if your junk yard axle has gotten fith corruption and communism in it, it's going to wreck itself PDQ, and you will be going right back to the junk yard.

As far as T100 axles go, they are longer. People use them in long travel IFS kits. If you can make one fit, more power to you, just don't think it'll be easy.

What are you doing to break them so much? I've seen CV's take A LOT of abuse, and personally feel that their "weakness" is overstated. I would MUCH rather break a CV than a stub shaft or ring/pinion...

What are the details of your rig - lift, tires, lockers, etc?

Wholesale parts dealers sell rebuilt ones. I have had very good luck with these because they are the OEM part, not to mention they are cheap, about $60 when you give the core back. You just have to find where to get them, but most of the places will sell to the public cash and tax.

Exactly sounds like you got a locker up front...either that or you need a solid axle with the things you do

Not necessarily. In a lot of instances, a front locker will prevent more damage than it causes. If he's breaking the shaft itself, I'd bet he has an open diff, a heavy right foot, and wheels rutty muddy trails a lot.
