Hello yall .. this is my first post and will most likely be one of my many to come being that im really getting into my newly purchased 95 4runner 4x4.

My question is this:

I really want to put new shocks on it and springs but im really concerned about the angle of the cv boot and axle. this is because the shocks i have now are all stock and really small... so i went looking to alot of places and found that the shocks that i can put on it are pretty big..almost twice the size as my old ones...so im thinking well if i put these on the front how will that affect my angle on the cv axle? is it bad to have it at a really steep angle? thats the only thing that is holding me back from doing this project....PLZZ any help or advice would be awsome..thanks guys

 

thank you very much...ill do that...oh ummm.. are they just somthing can can be installed by an average joe or is it pretty expensive and hard to do?

 

flbrooks, no offense but read the sticky about mis-information. Your information is valid for 3rd gens but not 2nd gens.

The maximum recommended lift for (edit) the front of 2nd gens is 1.5" without bracket lifts.

4runnernoob, normal shocks do absolutely nothing to your ride height.

 

thanks lol..what do u mean by normal shocks?....cuz im looking at like some bilsteins for the front and i havent looked at coils for the rear... But i have looked at this site about the spacers..they seem to help when u lift ur truck cuz it lowerss the angle of the cv axle..but i can be wrong...So what would u do in my position..im on a really tight budget...i just want a nice lift to go 4wheelin in .. 2 front shocks...2 rear shocks and 2 springs....thanks for the help again

I think robinhoods post is extremely misleading (one would say bordering on misinformation LOL). You can certainly lift more than 1.5", but generally you need to do a "bracket lift" that maintains the travel and keeps the CV angles correct.

Shocks will do nothing for your ride heght. The only way they can affect it is if they are gas charged they may help prevent the suspension from sagging as much under load.

You can fit 33x10.50 under there with NO lift. Save the money and put it towards armor/locker. If you do have to do a lift, look at the trdparts4u setup with everything you need.

 

Bflooks isn't talking about bracket lifts, he's talking about the diff drop bracket that lowers half the diff 1"...so approx 0.5" drop. Based on this context we're talking about tbar or bj spacers only.

But I can see how it could be misleading to some so I have edited my post accordingly.

 

Lift options are:
crank the torsion bars (maybe 1" lift)

balljoint spacer (common size is 1.5", amt of lift seems to vary)

Bracket lift (different versions from 3" to 6")

body lift (1" to 3", lifts body off the frame)

The key is what size tire do you want to run? Then use this to determine how much lift you NEED. Lift as little as possible.

MMMmmm..i dont want to get giant tires...i already have some pretty nice sized ones...around 30''.....its just the back is sagging and my 2 front shocks are crappy and old....the size of the lift doesnt really matter that much..just as long as I dont spend a fortune...only around 500 is my limit for the shocks n stuff...if need be i can save and just buy them piece by piece...OR should i just wait on the shocks and get my oil pan gasket fixed..thats 500 bucks right there..the mechanic said its a big deal to rush in and get it fixed..just have to watch my oil lvl...do u think i should spend the money to get the shocks and springs or take it to a mech and make sure everything is working.? im not sure what to do
