Cracked head....

Hey guys... I just got my 22re head back from the shop and found out its cracked. So Im obviously going to get a new or possibly rebuilt???

My question is go new or rebuilt?

Fully built and ready to go or bare?

I was thinking about changing the cam so should I go with a torque or RV cam?

If I change the cam.... do I need to change my timing chain set? (as far as I know... I have 230k on it)

Any suggestions would be appreciated

I think it would depend on your cash flow, but only go with a oem head, check out lc engineering or d.o.a they both rock. If your happy with the performance with your truck before the head went youll love a mild cam with maybe a little porting, and only suffer a few mpg.

If it were me, id do something not mild but not crazy, and definatly change your chain if you havent in the last say 40k.

good luck

if possible always go new. rebuilt USUALLY means they only fixed what was wrong with it. sometimes rebuilt means FULLY REBUILT, but rarely.

what about this setup??

head:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-P...em330209085380

cam:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TOYOT...em130197526815

now do I use my old valves and springs or get new ones? I don't want to spend more than 350 for an entire head setup.

for what its worth i dont believe any others have answered your TC question. Yes, change it out. If its got 230k on it then its time. Better to do it now then get it all back together and have it break a guide or have some other issue.

hey... did you have to do anything special with the timing because of the increased duration?
