Converting 4wd 4Runner to 2wd prerunner
#21
lol. if you wanna swap my engine into your runner and your engine into my runner, and throw in some cash, i'll gladly trade you my '04 pre-runner taco ext. cab. lol. no doubt.
or maybe just throw in a bunch of money.
or you could just take all of their ideas...

the logic in this completely and utterly evades me.
1) you have a '92. There were no 'pre-runner' models of anything Toyota made in '92.
2) Why get rid of 4wd? Just for a "look"? That's a pretty dumb reason for killin the resale and doing useless work
3) Do you actually want more travel? Or again, is it just for looks?
4) 2wd and 4wd 4runners of that generation looked exactly the same, no matter what.
5) There's no 'pre-runner' 4runner anyways. Those are all pickups.

To add:
What if you get in to a situation where 4x4 is needed?
You'll be kicking yourself and saying "man I paid money to get IN to this situation and more than likely, I'll have to pay money to get OUT of this situation."
Ditto to what has already been said, this just doesn't make sense. You've got an awesome trail rig.

I kept my axles, it was worth it.
If you are pushing the boundaries of high speed travel, losing the axles makes sense. Less weight up front (And all around if you lose the tcase), opens the window of travel because cvs are no longer a limiting factor, and it allows you to make custom spindles to mount the lower bj or uniball higher on the spindle.
Unless you need it for that reason, I would just keep the 4wd and add other stuff to get your desired perfroamce or look.
fiberglass
long travel kit or wheel spacer or offset rims
bumper
skidplate
That's my 0.02
