I have been getting a random cel and shows code 24 which is intake air temp sensor circuit. I found that I could get the light to come on when I pull/shake the wire harness from the passenger side after it comes off the engine on passenger side. I opened up loom and found the yellow with green wire.( matched wire color on VAFM plug side). If I pull on the yellow/green wire I could get the light to flash on and off. My question is can I just clip the wire on the VAFM plug side and run a new wire to the other side? If so, should I use the sam gauge wire? or go up a size? If that is not a viable option, any suggestions? Thanks
You don't give your make/model/year/engine (what? is it a secret?). I don't think the wire colors changed much year-year.
My 1994 EWD shows the FC (fuel pump control) wire from the VAF as Green-Yellow (there is a Y-G wire from the diagnostic connector to the ECM, but I'm guessing you just reversed the colors). The wire to the Intake Temp sensor is Blue-Red. I'm guessing you have a rotten spot somewhere in the wire loom, and even though your G-Y wire is fine (the truck won't run without it), it's right next to a break in the L-R wire somewhere.
None of the wires from the VAF carry significant current, so don't bother using larger wires. In fact, they are as large as they are just for mechanical strength. So if you figure out which wire is causing your problem, you can replace it with anything close. But you're going to need to find the bad spot; replacing the G-Y wire would just be sad.
And just in case no one has mentioned this to you:

Problem solved. The wires at the VAFM plug are 2 yellow, 2 greens, and 2 browns. Yellow with green stripe is one of the2 for the IAT. I cut the wire on the plug side and then on the passenger side of the engine and ran a jumper wire to test. It didn't work. After much frustration, I found out that in my haste to get things done that there were 2 yellow with green stripe wire in the big wire harness. Repaired the cut wire and cut the other and checked for continuity. There was none. So I tapped into the second yellow/green wire, ran a new wire from the plug side and all seems good. I cannot get the light to come back on. Guess the test will be this weekend out in Ocotillo Wells.
