Clutch Squeak

So my clutch squeaks on my 1989 toyota v6 4x4, but only in the first 3-4 gears. (that I can hear). Is there a plastic bushing on the clutch pedal ssembly that needs to be replaced or can I just do the linear spring as mentioned in unhappy's forum?

Does the pedal squeak as you let the clutch out or is the squeak from somewhere else? It's not uncommon for the pedal pivot bracket to distort/crack after many years of use. I have the squeak when letting the clutch out. My mechanic looked it over and said that it is OK to drive that way for a while.

I don't know about unhappys forum, but when mine squeaks I usually just shoot some WD-40 on it and it shuts up for a while.

check for leaks from the MC boot. If it looks like it's leaking with brake fluid, you may be drawing in air. Keep an eye on it and if the disengagement gets progressively worse, you may have to change out the MC.

If you have a chance to park the truck for a while and plan on keeping it, I would remove the clutch pedal bracket and have it welded/reinforced. It's a PITA to get to, but better to fix it now under controlled circumstances than to be stranded later when it breaks. It's a common part to fail on these trucks/4runners, and the dealerships sell a lot of these brackets. It happened to my dad's truck @ 230,000 miles, so I know firsthand about these failures. I'm going to remove my bracket this spring and have it reinforced before it has a chance to fail! Probably a good idea anyhow, since I'm installing a Centerforce 2 clutch.

There is a bushing that may need to be replaced. My pedal was squeaking so I looked and the bushing for the pin that holds the linkage to the clutch pedal was gone. I got a new one at the dealership for $5.50, it took 5 minutes to install and my clutch pedal is quiet now.

Do you have a part # for this bushing?

Thanks
Chris

Mine squeeks from the slave on the side of the tranny. I thought it was by the pedal assembly, but one day I really listened around for it and it turned out to be something in the slave assembly. Not sure what though, I just ignore the sound, the clutch works fine anyway.

I don't have a part number but you should just be able to go to the Toyota parts dept and have them pull it up on the computer, thats all I did. The bushing is really small, look at your clutch pedal where the linkage connects and you will be able to see if it is still there.

Good luck!

I'm on my second bracket and it's starting to crack. Has anyone done a reinforcement job? I'd like to hear what turned out best in improving this bracket that has now failed twice in 234,000 miles.
