Clutch Slippage

I am Narrowing Down the Oil Leaks on My Truck! I Found an Improperly Tightened Down Valve Cover on The Passenger Side. I am Convinced I have a Blown Rear Seal As I am getting a Little Bit of Oil Coming out of the Wheep Hole in the Bell Housing. My Question is....Can a Leaking Rear Main Seal Cause an Automatic Transmission to Slip a Little Bit. It only Slips When I Rip on it Pretty Good and the Transmissin Kicks Down the RPM's Go up But the Truck Does'nt Accelerate for a Second. The Slippage is Minimal Just Trying to Avoid More Problems Later.

Thanks Guys

Dax

A leaking rear seal won't cause slipping on an auto, it must be an internal problem inside the transmission. Seal leaks only cause problems with clutches as the oil gets on the clutch. Auto trannies are sealed so there is no way for engine oil do anything.

If this is on your 4Runner, with 284,000 miles your tranny might be getting to the end of it's life.

if he has lost enough trans fluid, it could cause a slight slip. the fluid pump becomes deprived of fluid for just a second, causing slippage. once it catches up to itself and starts to get atf back in circulation, it will catch and start to move.

You don't want to overfill your transmission, so how much was it over?

It seems to have Plenty of Fluid it was Exactly on the Hot Line after a Good bit of Wheeling in the Woods. Clutch is Starting to slip More and More. I wonder what Fails and What it costs For a Freshen Up. Maybe I should Pull the Pan and Clean the Filtering Screen?? I have Heard of this. But,My Haynes Manual Does'nt Give any Detail."Imagine That"....
