Clutch master Cylinder: Rebuild or Replace? Known Good Brand?

Hi Folks,
(searched but could not find a thread for clutch master cylinder so...)

The clutch master cylinder on my 1986 runner (22RE) shows sign of leak. I need to completely drain and replace the old fluid, so to save time I'm debating whether to rebuild or simply replace MC with after-market.

After market MC's run around $20, except for the Aisin that costs $70 (here)
Rebuild kits around $20 (like this)
I could save time by simply removing and replacing. I recently got the truck and I don't want to put too much money into any project, just yet; want most bang for the buck.

I would like to know your experience/opinion:

Have you recently rebuilt or replaced your master cylinder?
What brand-model did you use to replace and are you happy with it?
Any experience with these on Amazon?

Know of other replacement parts-brand that may be of same or better value? Sources with better deals than Amazon?

TIA and regards.

Minor Paint Damage From Leaking Clutch Master Solenoid

I found this when I peeled of carpet to do my sound deadening.

As soon as you notice a leaking clutch master cylinder, I recommend fixing (Replacing) it. It only costs around $25 and is easy to replace, after all. Otherwise, paint will get stripped and panel will eventually rust, and brake fluid will soak the carpeting.

I replaced mine with a parts store one a couple of years ago and not had any problems and need to do the same on another truck.

Thanks, Terry. Yes, I did mine a few months ago. Super easy, and it only costs around $25. Just this weekend, in the middle of sound-deadening project, I realized how much the carpeting can mask/absorb leakage, until you peel it off.

BTW, I will apply peel and seal on this side of firewall. Do you guys think I should clean, prime and paint first? or better to apply tar/rubber directly on clean bare metal?

-TIA

After-Market Clutch Master Cylinder leaks again.

Just found my clutch master cylinder installed a few months ago leaking again. I'll return under warranty. I'll probably go Aisin this time. What do you guys think? Anything better than that?
TIA,
RAD

Honestly, I just use the duralast ones form auto zone. I had my Slave go out on me last week, So I just replaced both. Lifetime warranty. That works for me!

You Get What You Pay For, cheap parts are cheap parts, and in the long run it's cheaper to buy quality the first time instead of wasting time trying to save money going cheap.

For what the cheap crap costs compared to Aisin it's dumb not to just go OEM.
You save a few bucks for what, another leaky part and a messed up floor pan?

Aisin.

Agree. Lesson Learned.
waskillywabbit, Actually, Duralast I saw at Autozone is more expensive than Aisin from Amazon :0
So you guys think Aisin quality has not changed? Just wanna be sure.

Best regards,
RAD

I would recommend AISIN as well. The aftermarket parts catalog for AISIN is great for knowing the part #. Then u can search for the best price on rockauto; ebay or other vendors. I have been using this and getting OEM parts at very reasonable prices.

http://www.aisinaftermarket.com/English/Catalog.php

For example, 1986 22RE, 4cyl, the master cylinder part # is CMT-003. It sells for $23.79 on rockauto.com. Pretty cheap and its OEM part.

Thanks guys and especially waskillywabbit, for the offer. However, when I reported the MC leaking to local OReilly store, the sales guy found me an Aisin for only $48, so I just took that, and returned leaking MC for a refund.

hgill,
$23.79 is a good price but when I searched Rock Auto, the $23 one is a beck-Arnley, not Aisin.

Regards,
RAD

I know this is a bit of a stale post, but it shows up on Google, so just a caution - if you find your toyota pickup/4runner is eating master cylinders, you should check that the support bracket isn't cracked. I went through 3 MC's and replaced the slave twice over a period of about 3 years before I figured it out. I tried both Beck/Arnley, and OEM, even had the dealer do the work on the last one.

Here's a link to the problem: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...fatigue-32667/
Mine had been previously booger welded so I ordered a new OEM bracket for $140 and had a brace welded on as insurance, similar to this (but professionally done, for another $40) http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/toyot...cheap-fix.html
