Ok, so I'm removing the notorious broken clutch bracket on my 91 Standard Cab 4-cyl 4x4 and I've read the forums and almost got it out. Trouble is, I've taken the bolt out to disconnect the steering shaft, but can't get it to slide off the splines. Any tips or info to help? I did a search and couldn't find anything. I've heard some remove the brake pedal, but that it's a PITA to get back in. Should I just remove the brake pedal instead? Also, the one I have doesn't look that great, so instead of welding it up and risking it breaking somewhere else, I plan on buying a new one and reinforcing it prior re-installing it. Went for the brake pedal and that's a no go. That bolt is a b!+c# to get to. It's surrounded by random metal tabs that appear that their only function is to make it impossible to swing a ratchet in there. lol Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

 

Anyone? I've got it torn apart and the new one will be here in the morning. I'd like to be able to have it back driveable by tomorrow afternoon.

 

i never disconnected to steering shaft to get mine out on my 90. i took off both pedals with a combination of a wrench and ratchet and a lot of swearing , unbolted it from the firewall and somehow i managed to get it out...if you haven't done so already, take out your seat, it makes it a hell of a lot easier

 

Thanks for the info. I thought about taking the seat out. I had about a 6 foot long table butted up against the drivers door and put some foam padding I had on it and was laying on my side. It made it a lot easier than trying to twist completely upside down to work on it. I may take the seat out tomorrow morning. I think I could easily remove the pedals if I could use both hands, but with the way I'm laying in there now I can only use one hand, which SUCKS when trying to break a bolt loose. I had everything else done in less than 30 min, just gotta get it out now. Thanks again for the help!

 

Ok. All finished! A LOT easier if you take the seat out and take off the bottom part of the dash and the lower air vent. One last question, I've got it all back together, but now it won't start with the clutch pedal pushed in. It will start with the Clutch Start Cancel switch, but won't with the pedal. Any ideas?? Thanks again for all the help!

 

When you hit the key does it turn engage the starter? You might have just pulled a wire loose.

No it doesn't do anything when I turn the key. Doesn't try to turn over, no clicking or anything. Push the Clutch Start Cancel button and it starts fine.

 

The clutch start cancel button just disables the little button down on your clutch pedal. Basically so you wont start the truck without the clutch in and it go rolling off in gear. Check the connections to that little button.

 

Yeah I had to disconnect the little button for the brake lights from the old bracket and I saw the one for the clutch. I'm gonna check it out this afternoon. I don't remember getting tangled into any wires, but who knows because you can't really see anything. lol If the old button is like the brake light button, it has some adjustment in it, so it may not be properly adjusted to where it hits the pedal. What sucks is, I've already put the seat and dash back together so I could drive it. Thanks for all the help! Hopefully this thread will help someone else out who has to do it in the future.
