Exclamation Choice to be made

So the info is. I have a 94 v6 auto tran ADD 4x4 sitting on 33 tires with a 4 inch lift Yes it is done right. The truck has 3.91 gears stock.

I need to do a regear as this thing is a slug with no balls.

I am thinking 4.88 or 4.56 gears.

Now I can get a set (front and rear) 4.56 from a pull yard for 323.00 out the door already pulled.

Or I can drop 800-900 on the gears for the 4.88 gearing.

This truck is a daily driver so MPG has to be kept in mind. So does highway driving.

My first thought is go with the 4.56 gears as they are the best of both worlds mpg and hill climbing.

The 4.88 gears are the best for off raod and hills, but not so good on the mpg and highway as it will rev higher.

This is the issue at hand. I only have a day mabe two before that yard sells that third member it is the only one in the area.. They fly off the shelf around here. Plus you never find a 4.56 in a yard they where special order on the 4 runners ( which is what it is coming out of) (Going into a 94 pickup)

Any thoughts or help would be great.

Personally I'd hold out for a good deal on a set of 4.88 third members because us auto tranny guys need all the help we can get. The highway MPG should still be decent even with the 4,88's. 4.88's are what most people would recommend for 33's anyway

If you don't want to wait for the 4.88's, the 4.56's will be a nice little boost from 3.90's.

I hear what you are saying 4.88 is a must for the 35 tires but it seems to be on the line for the 33 tires. With 33 tires it turns the 4.56 into a 4.86 gear.

Now the auto does take a little more help. But that would put my gear with the 33 tires over 5.0 and the rpms would scream on the highway.

I thought 3.90s are only in older generations and the 2wd 2nd gens. What's your axle code?

Forgot to point out that the 4.56 would be coming out of a runner with abs, does this effect it go into a non abs truck.

Doesn't matter. You'll want to be sure to snag the abs sensor though to plug the hole.

An engine freeze plug might fit, not necessarily from a Yota. Im sure there is some kind of after-market block off somewhere

This is what you will be missing. You could make something easy enough.

I think you made the right call going with the 4.56 gearing. If they're gone as quickly as you say they are, you'll have no issues selling them if you deicde to re-gear in the future.
