check lamp wont blink

Hi, after the ignition switch problem being solved, i must continue to another one:
my 3vze is not running properly, it idles ok but revs poorly, if i open throttle slowly i can rev it up but only in neutral, in drive if the throttle is open more than cca 1/4 it will start to sputter (dont know the right word) and then the check lamp goes on.

thats why i wanted to read codes but, following the instructions for jumping the terminals with wire, my check lamp just stays on, whatever i do.

any ideas?

oh yea, the plugs and cables are new, old plugs look like runnin too rich, also i can see black smoke and smell the gasoline fumes from the exhaust which also confirm that i am running too rich.

sorry for my english, i am from croatia

And what instructions are those? It's easier for someone to tell you what you did wrong if you tell us what you did.

You should have connected TE1 to E1 on the diagnostic connector http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...85diagnosi.pdf
(there should be a sticker under the cap to identify the terminals). Then, if you have no codes the CEL will blink evenly. If you have codes, it will blink out the code(s). In your case, I'm guessing you didn't get a good connection.

Welcome to YotaTech. Your english is fine (sure beats my Croatian!)

I had the same issue with my 88 4Runner 3.0 and the engine light.

When I bought it, the seller told me that the engine light would occasionally come on, but that his mechanic said it was an ECU problem. (He seemed very honest and had tons of paperwork on the truck.)

Anyways, whenever the light would come on, or even just having it come on with the ignition turned on, it would never blink to reveal codes when the contacts were jumped. Never.

Never figured out for sure why it wouldn't work, or if it truly was an ECU issue, but just thought I'd mention you aren't the only one who has had that problem and what it possibly might be.

Thank you for your answer. I will start first with testing VAF, then TPS and then the injectors... the previous owner had it running on LPG, i would say it is the faulty injectors maybe?
