Chance to buy 85 axle

I have a chance to buy a 85 straight axle, with 5in TG leafs, socks, sock hoops, and front hanger for $1000, should I do it. It's for a 90 single cab toyota.

Is that new or used parts? Axle been rebuilt and trussed etc? Condition of the axle? Been regeared and/or locker installed?

Stock gears for 85, no locker, painted looks good, the guy said I might need to get new shock hoops because they aren't that good and maybe front hanger, it has 5in TG leafs

Slow down. Do more research. Know what you want before you buy. 5" leafs are TALL, and you will need a whole lot more than a front hanger to get that axle under your truck.

Not really that good of deal. Stock axle (shafts/gears/hubs) Plus the unknown age of bearings and seals and breaks parts. I would put that around $300 on the high end if it all looks mint

Those springs are probably worth around the 300 range also. Assuming the bushings are good and they are not bent at all, ubolts and plates look good?

What brand shocks?

Keep doing research and browsing the classifieds. Youll need a rear lift too if you want 5" springs.

Also, this is posted in the build up section, should be in the general year section.

Yeah sorry. Right now my truck has a 3in body lift and a 3in suspension lift. Oh and I forgot it comes with hy-steer, it was under his truck/4-runner he has to unbolt it, so I would think that it's fine.

Anyone can rattle can anything to make it look good. Plan to rebuild any axle you get unless it had just been rebuilt.

The high steer adds quite of bit of value to the deal if its complete.

You can price things out your self here and see what your getting into https://www.trail-gear.com/TG/default.aspx/

5inch TG springs does not mean a 5inch SAS. You get about 3-4 inches from the swap alone, then whatever the springs are rated for. The 5" inch springs plus the sas plus you 3"bl will set you up about 11" over stock, before considering lift from the tires alone. That may be ok for mud, but too tall for daily driving/technical wheeling. But you can always get lower leaves or take a leaf or 2 out of that pack to bring it down. Or take the BL out.

I'm planning on taking out the body lift. Right now I'm running 35s. Would I still have to get a lift in the rear? It has a block right now
