To cat or no cat... that is the question?
Is there any reason to keep the cat on a 87 22re 5 speed. Mine looks to be original. I am heading to the exhaust shop tomorrow. Besides emissions, is there any reason for this to stay on the truck?

with or without the cat the performace change isn't noticable. it may be a slight bit better with it on- low end torque, due to back pressure.
and please keep it on, there is already too much crap in the air, and we all know it's getting worse.
thanks

No it's not here we go again. I was simply asking a question. Pros and Cons? If you insist on being a smart ass, how about don't answer. I am debating replacing it or piping it, that was my thoughts, you got that.... ok!
Thanks

This topic has been discussed before.
I would strongly suggest you keep your cat,
it doesn't help or harm you,
and if you feel it does.
Then my SUGGESTION to you is that you find a high flow cat,
especially with the laws that are out.

How much do they usually run in a shop? This one is original with 179k miles, is it time to be changed? I installed the header after the HG and the cat in/out is like 2 inch. So it goes 2.5 to 2.25 to 2 to 2.25, so I was just figuring that could not be good.

Of all the emissions equipment, the catalytic converter makes the biggest impact on tail pipe emissions. Keep it, it's the right thing to do. Besides, aftermarket high flow cats don't hurt performance.

I was always taught that it was better to be consistent in size all of the way down.
Any general muffler good for this application. The guy said he has the normal magnaflow, flowmaster, turbos......etc.
