Busted antenna?

Floppy antenna on a 93 pickup, pulled the inner fender liner and found a PVC tube clamped into place, which looks like it's supposed to be attached to the antenna base.... But it's not.

I guess my question is, what exactly is wrong with this picture? Busted? Missing part?

Thanks

Your antenna tube has broken. I cut the head off of a bolt and splice it back together.

Awesome, thanks!

The ground wire, is that supposed to be attached to the metal base?

I am at work right now, but I should be able to get you a picture of it tomorrow. I forget where it actually hooks up to.

If you look at trucks several trucks and see the antenna is tilted back, it is that shaft that is broken. You can get another one from the boneyard and it will most likely break later on. The bolt trick has yet to fail me. I dont recall the size bolt I use, but I get one that is just a hair larger then the plastic tube and thread it into the tube.

I have bought broken antennas from salvage yards and they nearly give it to you cause it is broken. The threaded bolt trick makes it better then new.

Here is an electric antenna but same principal, not sure where the ground actually connects to but maybe the picture will help.

Thanks guys

I have now ripped off 3 antennas. Been thinking, there has to be a shorter, rubber or generally flexible replacement option for those of us pushing through branches and such often?

My retractable antenna was shot and all busted up inside. I bought a generic flexible antenna from Autozone and was able to friction fit it into the mount on the fender. Works great, and flexes whenever it needs to. It's the black antenna with a spiral wire around it. I pulled the old motor out so I don't have to listen to it wheezing every time I start the truck.

That was 5 years ago and I haven't had to give the antenna a thought since.

Deleted Whip Antenna

I deleted whip antenna and replaced it with hidden one sandwiched between top-liner and Fiberglas cap.
This method will only work with Fiberglas roof.
