Brake Light Question

Ok Gang...

Let me throw this at you.... 92 4Runner 3.slow... brake light on and WILL not go off. I have topped off brake fluid and checked the Master float. all appears to be ok. E-brake does not seem to work on truck.

Like wise, just a say or so after the light came on... Cruise control seemed to stop working. It will come on (dash light) but won't set. Are these two inter-related?

thanks for the help friends!

Cujo

This is just a guess but is you ebrake cable broken? On my pick up, when the cable is broken (like now), the ebrake lever will not go all the way in without some persuasion. This in turn causes the light to stay on in the dash until you fiddle with the lever enough to get it to go out.

I don't have much experience with the cruise control but I would imagine that it could be related depending on how it is wired. It does disengage when you step on the brake.

Or......does your ebrake not work because the rear brake shoes are worn? Just another thought.

even if the rear shoes are worn that won't directly cause the ebrake light to light. the ebrake lamp only comes on if the switch under the dash isn't pressed, or the brake fluid float is low.

with your problem it's likely your ebrake cable is broken or the little paddle on the ebrake shaft is broken off. i broke my little paddle off and now my ebrake light is on permanently though my ebrake still works.

So it could be the e-brake cable... I'll have that checked....

But the cruise control???? Any guesses on that?

you might be able to unplug the ebrake switch it's on the floor near the top of the gas pedal. that might make it turn off and if it doesn't jumpering the two wires in the plug will .

cruise wont work if your brake light is on. try unplugging the wires that go into the master cylinder cap. you may need a new brake reservoir float switch.

yup, as stated: unplug each sensor to find out which one is causing the light. Cruise control wont work when the truck has a 'brake problem' (make sense), so unplug the problem switch, or fix the problem to get your cruise back.

Thanks gang,

I unplugged the sensor at the paddle.... seems the paddle is still in place but the broken cable is keeping it from seating against the button to cut off the sensor light... unplugged it.... no light.

thanks!
