Bought used '94 4Runner. Have questions now.

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and appreciate any pointers on the questions I have.

I just bought a '94 4RUNNER (v6 sr5 4WD) for $2,500.00. It has 192000 miles on it and has some rust but all power accessories work. I was actually looking for a used car as a second car ('99 CAMRY is primary car, 100000 miles, going strong!!) and came across this and thought OK for a change let me buy this. Its a crazy purchase.

I have driven some 120miles so far and found that the engine runs strong and tranny (auto) shifts perfect. The tires are nearly new.

However the following are the defeciencies I need to correct:

1. It id not come with spare tire. Where can I get one cheap? I live in Connecticut. There are tools - bottle jack, some iron rods.
2. One tire looks like leaking air very slowly. How to fix this?
3. The rear bumper is rusted. Where can I get a used non-rusted one?
4. here is the big one - The accelerator pedal is super hard; I need to really press hard. How to fix this? If I get a new cable can I change it myself?
5. There is no antenna(broken). WHere can I get one and fix it?

I checked with the dealer by giving VIN number and they said head gasket is replace during FEB-1998.

I may not take the vehicle off-road any time. Only well paved road driving. So far I liked it and love the sliding Sun roof.

ANy inputs are appreciated.

Thanks in Advance!!

1. someone in here might have one, but basically any steel rim with the same lug pattern would work.
2. Take it to Discount tire. there is a new plug that works way better and does not void warranties. Ask about that.
3. Almost any junk yard, but someone in here will have one cheaper.
4. hmmmm... that one stumps me
5. eBay. They are all over there.

Sounds like you got a decent ride, but you better take it off road some day or else we will have to confiscate it from you. Have fun!

Welcome to Yotatech. I agree with Ted on 1,2,3, and 5. For 4, I had that happen and after putting some injector cleaner in the tank, it freed the pedal up. Might help.

as for the 4th id say just check your interior/exterior cables/linkages and see that you have proper play and that nothing is catching or rubbing. also i noticed that the pedals just are a little stiffer when compared to a car that you are used to driving.

Thanks for the suggestions. Did you mean fuel injector cleaner like CHevron-Techron in the Gas tank?

Also I noticed the pedal effort required decreases as the engine warms up and keep driving.

DO I get bumper stickers that look like chrome shine? SO that I can stick a long sticker along the rear bumper to cover the rust spots

Any links to documents on changing the fluids - Engine oil, transmission, differentials etc?

Thanks a bunch!!

for the writeups on changing fluids check in the tech writeups section on here. for the bumper chrome, i have seen chrome colour paint (duplicolor) at the local hardware store but have never tried it.

I have replaced the accelerator cable because it was kinked.
It's very easy to due, but...
I would first look at that throttle body to see if it is gummed up.
Especially if you say it frees up after warm.
