little bitty screwdriver perhaps? I used that and a small set of needle nose pliers to get a key out one time. Good Luck!

Unbolt ignition lock cylinder.

Disconnect wiring in back.

Install new ignition lock reverse of above procedure.

get some very thin nose pliers. Perhaps a snap ring plier since they have very small tips.

One of those strong pickup tool magnets might work. I have one at home. It's about the size of a 5/8" nut, and will lift 8 pounds. That may work (if your key will stick to a magnet, that is).

Other than that... a dental pick, maybe?

My 16 year old did it, so he probably did see a girl and broke it off. I was trying to figure out how to get the igniton out, it seems to be riveted on the steering colum.

There is a dimple on the ignition assembly in line with the lock cylinder. You push in with a small pointy tool and then pull the cylinder out completely. That makes micro surgery easier. Depending on what vehicle you have, it might be easy or difficult to get the necessary plastic pieces removed to get at the dimple. You don't have to remove the ignition assembly though.

Depending on how much key is exposed...is there any way to put a dab of superglue or JB Weld on the short end of a very small allen wrench and bonding it to the key remnant? Once bonded hold down the key release, gently wiggle the steering wheel and pull on the allen wrench? (You would certainly compound the problem if any adhesive bonded the key to the cylinder mechanism.)

Option 2...call a locksmith and ask him if there was a good time for you to stop by his shop to have him do his magic...ask in advance what something like that would cost...definitely don't have him come to your location and incur a service call fee. Good luck.

I think once I get the cylinder out I should ba able to get it. There isn't any piece sticking out. Our maintenance guy at work has a key extractor that I am going to try.

get a tube of quiksteel, rub some grease on the cylinder around the key (don't get any on the key!), and squish the quiksteel on there. stick a washer or something in it for a handy pulling handle

the grease will prevent the quiksteel from bonding to the cylinder, but it'll bond to the key. it'll be hard enough to pull out in about twenty minutes.
