Body question

OK i want to replace my rear bumper on my 4runner but don't like the look of the body on the side behind the rear wheels...

... i was wondering if the lower piece from a pickup would work on the 4runner or if it would be easier to fab a piece to fit? has anyone tried that before?

afaik, the trucks don't have a 'trim' piece behind the rear wheel... at least my 91 truck doesn't.

I'd say build the area up with fiberglass and paint to match.

ive got the same deal on mine. i have thought of making some sort of mud flap guard for this section right there. useing the two bolt to the right in that picture and going to the rear of the mudflap. i have mudflaps bolted to the inner fender. this material is only like 1/4 inch rubber mat. haven't done it cause i think i am getting close to building a boxed out bumper.

Get a bumper that will cover that up... Or just paint it black

well... where can i find a bumper that goes all the way around, the reason i wanted to replace it is because i also wanted to get rid of the running boards but, to me, the bumper sits to low to do that in my opinion

Mine is all rusted out so I'm just going to remove it and box it in with some galvanized duct work...

not the best image but you get the idea.

The 1st gen 4runners have a plastic trim piece that you may be able to cut up a bit and make work , Maybe!!

Ya the old girl definitely seem better days...She has a lot more cancer on her than I though when I got her.

As for the OP I'm sure you can get some sheet metal and weld it in to cover it up.
