Body lift\front bumper on 94 pickup

I am confused. I am looking at Rodger's body lift instructions.
It talks about needing a bracket for the front bumper.

I talked to a local guy that has a 3inch BL and he said he didnt have to do anything for the front bumper.

I am confused on 2 parts....do I need a bracket for the front bumper or not?
ALSO in Rodger's instructions it calls the bracket a DROP bracket.

I would think you are raisng the bumper not lowering it.

Can anyone explain these two things to me?

Thanks

You dont have to do anything with the bumper, that being said you will have a 3" gap where there used to be none, or 1" (depends on size of BL). It all depends on how you want it to look, a 1" gap isnt noticeable by most.

As far as the drop???

I am doing a 3 inch BL. The local guy told me the front bumper is attached to the body and needed no modification.

I don't want a 3 inch gap.

What are the options to keep from getting the gap?

Ok I just got an email from Roger. The drop bracket is solved.
I really was confused. See Roger's comment below.

"
Well two ways of looking at the brackets:

1. The relocation bracket "drops" the holes on the stock bumper bracket to match the holes
in the frame.

2. The relocation bracket raises the holes in the frame to match the holes in the bumper
bracket."

So the drop bracket moves the holes in the bumper lower to match the frame holes.

Yeah, that makes sence... The bumper is attached to the frame in the front and rear of a P/U, so you do need the bracket for the bumper... And why are you putting a 3" BL on??

I want bigger tires. I like the aggressive look of tall wide tires. I am not an off roader ( except on my wheeler) so I am not worried about flex and wheel travel.

Have you considerd a smaller BL and BJ spacers up front and a 1" block and shackle in the rear? What size tires do you want to run? Here is a thread discussing the opinions of BL's. Personally, as you will read, I think BL affects handeling worse that suspension lift. If this is a street truck only I would still consider a smaller BL, 2" max 1" prefered. You would still be able to run 32's or 33's, but would handle better... just my .02, post pics when you get it lifted

I also noticed that you too have a 22RE...which is why I asked the size you want to run, without a regear these are dogs with 33's...

I had the same brackets with my 3" body lift. Yes your bumper does move up with the body lift.

I have the extended shackles already installed and have the BJ spacer to install.
That gives me a 1 1/2 inch lift. I can run 33 10.50's with that, but I want 33 12.50's.

My train of thought is with 3 inch body and 1 1/2 inch shackle and BJ spacer gives me 4 1/2 inches of lift. More than the 4 inch suspension lifts alone will get me and have plenty of room for the 33 12.50 tires. At less than half the cost of the PRO COMP suspension lift I was looking at.

I have read all the threads before about suspension versus BL. I am sure there are good and bad points to both.

I think unless you are off roading and need wheel travel then a BL is all you need, and you can not beat the price.

I will post some pics of the process and the final result.

I already have a thread with pics of the truck now. I just got it back from the body shop with fresh paint. I will see if I can find the thread.

I am sure you will like it. It will look great. I really wanted a single cab for the shorter wheelbase, plus I like the way they look better. But since mine is my DD, I went with the extra for space.
BTW, I had a '90 for 10 years with a 3" body lift and 33"s. It rode great.

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but when you did your body lift, did you have to extend your wiring harness or any hoses or your shift linkages? Or was it pretty straight-forward?

I did not lengthen anything in mine. Some say you should extend your shifters, but in my manual, I like the shifters lower to the floor.

Bobakazi,

You did a 3inch BL right? Didn't you have to extend the steering shaft? Can you send me a bigger picture of your avitar? That is your truck right?

I wanted to get a better look at the skid plate on the front. I know on other toyota's that have a BL you can see the fron cross member of the frame. It looks like yours is covered.

Thanks

Email is Joeldotmiddleton@ge.com of course change dot to .

I did install a 3" BL on my last truck, but that was 11 years ago, and I do not remember if I had to extend the steering shaft or not. The truck in my avitar is the one I have now, but I do not have a skid plate on it right now. I hope to get one soon. I am trying to see if Bud will make me one even though I was late on the group buy. I did not install the lifts on this truck, they were on it when I bought it. I can only assume when the last owner installed the suspension lift, he could not afford the longer skidplate. The stock plate will work fine with just a body lift. Here is a pic of the front how it is now. Sorry I can not be of more help. I am sure somebody else will be able to answer you.
