Block options

Just got off the phone with my mechanic, my crank and too many of my rods had oil starvation. So hes going to re-torque the main caps and if they're out of round, which he suspects is the case, i need a new block. So does anybody have any suggestions on where i can get a block at a reasonable price? or any suggestions at all that would help?? No swaps, unless you want to supply my funds, thanks.

Something doesn't sound right.
If the crank journals are out of round I'd suspect the crank was bad as well.
In either case both the crank and the journals should be able to be machined and new bearings used unless they are beyond spec.

yup. something sounds odd.
The main bearing caps out of round? If that was true there'd be evidence of wear and galling on the lower half of the main bearings and the main crank journals. Same if the rod caps were warped.

You can have the block line bored at a machine shop that would take care of any out of round main journals.

New block is BS. Regrind the crank and put in new bearings all around. Done.

Can have block align bored, if damage is too bad a good machine shop can put saddles
in mains and then align bore. Have the crank hardness checked and then reground. This
is routine for any quality machine shop.

Crankshaft regrind is around $90.00. Align bore is around $200.00. You may find a block
for less than align bore cost but be careful. It would be wise to at least have align bore
checked on a used block. If saddles have to be used to repair mains
this can run into BIG $$$$$--$400.00 plus.

Ya i thought something was fishy, i didnt see why he couldnt regrind and replace my heat damaged rods and crank. I appreciate the reassurance. So Engbldr is the best place for crank and rods?? This whole proccess is taking forever i just want my 4Runner back on the road and out in the woods!

Well??

So im not getting rods and a crank from a store or anything im pulling an entire engine with accessories from a local junkyard for 250 bucks. One question though it is a 92, if i do end up needing the block for some reason, are they the same set up, or are there differences to where i cant use the block????
