Well I was able to taste a little bit of the 18th annual Toyota Fest in Long Beach. Two of my buddies had their Celica AllTracs in the contest (one was pissed with the results in his class).
Unfortunately I was fighting a huge hangover that morning and so I arrived late. 1 hour before it closed late and I didn't have time to take a lot of pictures.
There is a Hilux category and barely any trucks in our "class", I'm sure if Jennifer was ready, I could of won an award! There was 1 1988 4Runner.
Enjoy some of the pics

WOW!
Its been 2 weeks and the truck was not even touched. Their main guy left and he was the one whom I spoke to several times and that worked on my engine bay. Guy gave me nothing but good feelings when I was body shop shopping.
Now he's gone and there is a new guy (haven't met him), i'm trying to keep a positive attitude and give them the benefit of the doubt.
As I was told, the truck will be going through a lot this week and when I come back Monday/Tuesday, there will be (knock on wood) updated photos for you and me and a piece of mind (I hope).
My guess would be another 2-3 weeks.

Thank you sir, same here!
UPDATE!
NOTHING!!!!

Nothing has been done since last week. My buddy "promises" ˟˟˟˟ will get done this week. They've been so slammed with work (yeah I get it but i'm a customer too) and since the main guy working on it quit, it has been a tough ride.
The good news is that, yes, they can take their time. I am in no rush, just anxious, BUT if you tell me something and it's not done, of course I will be disappointed.
Since this is the second time of bringing my hopes down, the work to be done on the bumpers and roll bar is on the HOUSE!
So that's a few $hundred in savings.
Until next week ladies and gentlemen.

There was only a small collection of trucks at Toyota fest. Most were lowered early 90's pick ups. blah, boring
. Again, only a few in the fleet. The old school Hilux and Land Cruiser were cool. There was a modern FJ built to combat the zombie apocalypse which was pretty clean as well. Other then that, just your typical scions, supras, celicas, lexus ect.
I have a few more pics but nothing crazy. No car show sluts either (which i'm sure everyone would enjoy). Mr. John Jameson had the best of me that day and my time was limited
.

Ok I have to ask what is this bad boy going to end up costing you? You did an amazing job on the interior and the engine bay so far. This will deff be one the best ones on the road and certainly the most unique BTTF Yota's, better than the original. The interior alone must have taken you days if not weeks to get it all worked out, like that. What did you use for that? Keep up the great work.

Thank you very much ingenuitor! I've seen your posts and DAMN what a sweet rig you landed on! Good work my friend!!!
As for this project, I've saved most of my receipts because I knew what I was getting myself into. I got around and transferred everything to a spread sheet, let me tell you something ...
Sometimes it's best not to know how much you put in
All the new parts, misc parts, previous work done and even the little things added up quickly.
I had brakes and the distributor done before the project started and that alone cost me $800
.
The other thing is that I want a professional show-room look. Not your crappy $500 MACO paint job. I'm having them get into all the nooks and crannys. I can't remember if they're even taking off the bed to paint the back. However, I want it done and done right.
After that I'll have to spend more to keep it protected. In know there's a lot of bad people and they love our trucks and especially a BTTF replica
In the end this will be my show-room rig. My money sucker. My baby. My weekend driver.
I could of bought a brand new car! Seriously

Anyway, if you are happy and you can afford it, then who cares right. In the past I resorted a 280Z but with a Chevy 350 and eveythig to make that car a full on hotrod and it was crazy fast. My time spent was an entire summer and oh sometime like 6gs and I did all my own work. Including, engine work, electical, prep, paint, buffing and stereo. I ended up selling it for $4200 as it was not practical car at all but fun for the time.
I was in my 20's now I'm thinking about tweaking Dirty Girl, not sure yet, need more time with the rig to see what I want to do, deff a cap, so no BTTF clone for me, but I do want to borrow some of the elements, looking to order the BTTF fogs, seems the best price I can find on the KC #738 kit is $110 shipped.
The issue I see for me, is I paid a premium price for this truck and idk, I may just do little things and see how things go, keeping it original. I need more time exploring first.

Any chance you could tell me how you did your interor like that, that looks super sharp, I love the two tone idea. That's high on my list and maybe a paint job, but I wouldllike to retain the graphics, not sure even with the kits I see out their, they would ever look the same again.
Anyway, keep up the great work and do post some more pics and vids when you get further along on the project. Can't wait to see the end result, try to keep the budget under 40k lol Maybe in 2030 you could sell it for that.
Dont forget to protect it from people trying to steal it, that seems to be a big issue in Cali. Do something creative, I can't share what I would do, since crooks could read this and duh we all lose then. Have fun

You are quite the wrencher my friend!
This is all a learning experience for me and some of it is sticking (lol).
As for the interior I ordered the new carpet from http://www.stockinteriors.com.
I order it with the mass backing (thicker) for retaining more heat in the cab and less noise (supposedly). The problem for me was I didn't have the right tools to cut the mold and it was a bitch! Some parts I cut too much off and so I hot glued extra pieces to cover the gaps.
For the painting, I used Dupli color black vinyl paint and primer.

I used TSP to clean everything good before painting

It all worked out well. The seats would have to be touched up every so often because getting in and out causes it to stretch and crack over time.
Just try not to scratch anything and always keep an extra can laying around for those touch ups.
After putting in all this time and money, I'm keeping it!

Mirrors????
I was at the shop this morning and they got some work done. Hopefully i'll have more pictures uploaded today.
1st of all they knocked out that huge dent on the driver sided:
BEFORE:

AFTER:

I bought the tow mirrors from JC Witney and they are not lining up with the original hole on the door. The holes are spaced out more.
I do have some options but my main questions is, if I find the original mirrors will they line up? Was there a difference in years between the 85's and 87's ?
If there wasn't a difference, I'll need to look for these mirrors. If there was, I'll keep the ones I have and have the shop use one original hole, fill in the rest and make a new one for the end.

Ok here is the deal, things are shaping up nice for you, it seems but you need to make that shop protect your interior. Personally I would be livid if they treated my rig like that, I'd be like hey guys can we tape all the interior off with some heavy mil plastic? Or just take it all out. Be nice about it, but make sure that is part of it. Sorry that's just me, all that work and to see that enterior now, I would be beyond pissed. Again be nice, but kick a little ass and light a fire under them, so to speak. You are not an endless money tree, even if you are, don't let them treat you that way. Good luck.

Sir, you are absolutely right! I plan an unannounced visit in the morning before work and I will bring it to their attention that I put a lot of sweat into that truck. Covering it up is the least they can do.
I get it, things get messy in a body shop and in the end everything will be sparkly. That's why you see what you see. Several visits and some set backs, you can say I got caught up in the moment. Seeing my truck being worked on kind of made me forget.

Whew--this is really going to be something. I can't wait to see more progress.
I wish we had Toyota shows around here--that looks like a whole mess of fun. That Stout (in the foreground of the FJ40 picture) looks amazing--there aren't too many of those around. The FJ and Hilux are also incredible.
