It helps to remove the upper ball joint and swing the steering knuckle out of the way. I did it without this on one side but it sucked. It was way easier to just dissconnect the upper ball joint from the A-arm and swing the knuckle out. Use a socket between the upper A-arm and the extension bump stop to keep the upper A-arm from dropping all the way. This leaves you more room to work.

You don't need to disconnect anything, you don't need to take a hammer to anything.

Since you got them out, you must have discovered the secret: the suspension must be compressed, as though the truck was sitting on the tires (I put a jack under the rotor and lift until the weight just comes off the jack stands). With that angle, the half-shafts will come right out, and go right back in. No swearing.

If you want to tear your truck up in the process, that's your business, but you don't need to do it.

Assuming the everything is ready for the outer CV's to be removed from the hubs....

Turn the steering full left, unbolt the left inner joint from the flange, swing the end of the shaft forward and pull the joint from the hub... then turn steering full right, unbolt the right inner joint from the flange, swing the end of the shaft forward and pull the outer joint from the hub.

Installation done in reverse order- steering all the way to one side, slide the CV into the hub, position the inner joint on the flange and bolt it up, turn the steering the other way and repeat for that side. Then finish bolting everything up.
