Is anyone running this combo??

89 4x4 Pickup
22re
5spd
4.88s
35" tires
??????????????????

I know that 5.29s are best for 35s and 4.88s are best for 33s, but how bad will 35s and 4.88s be on the freeway?? I've been running 4.10s and 31s for a little while will it be similar?? I'd really like to hear from somebody that's running this combo. Thanks

Mike

i have a friend running that gear ratio with 35"s and it does fine. We have some big hills around here and he pulls them good in 4th. And it does good in the woods. It doesnt crawl like it would with 5.29's but as far as power & grunt its good.

I have run that combo before. you will find that on steeper grade on the hwy, you'll have to come outta 5th more oftern than with 31's or 33's, but 4.88's and 35's are no problem. Heck I even ran 4.88's with 38s and 39.5s, and could easily smoke a stocker on a hill.

yup, im running 4.88s and 35in mtr's.. does good..tryin to pull 4th gear larger hills it dogs down if you dont have alot of momentum. other then that. im at about 2100rpm at 50-55mph in 5th gear. i havent really got it up past that sence i did my sas.. i dont do alot of freeway running, no need to on my daily commute.

thanks

Thanks a lot. My truck got a little bigger than expected and I think it needs 35s instead of these 33s. Now, I've just got to sell my KM2 33/10s and get some 35s!

I plan on running 5.29s when I get finished builing my motor for my '87 pickup with 35" tires. From what I've researched that's the best combo along with 4" suspension and 2" body lift.

I just got finished putting a 4" suspension lift on my truck and I've got all kinds of room with the 33/10s. That's why I think it needs 35s. What I'm saying is...I don't think you will need a 2" body lift, unless you just want one.

Well that is certainly good to know. From what I've searched on here that's the combo you will need to have for 35" but if that's not necessary then I'm all game. I will be subscribing for updates on your build. BTW what part of GA are you from? If close by then maybe after I get my truck done we can make a run somewhere.

My 86 fourrunner sports a 4"in suspension & 3"in body, duel cases with twin stick, 5.29 gears, Aussie locker front & full spool rear, 35"in Mud King tires. And it pulls great on the highway & great in the woods with just one t-case engaged in low. Just waiting for spring to install the solid axle under her. Only problem Ive had is breaking the front inner axle shafts. But this only happens during wheel hop or real bad binding...

I have 4.88/35's combo and haven't had any issues as of yet. It pulls better than it ever did stock!
