1990 4x4 Auto T4r 3VZ. For quite some time when attempting to start the engine there would be a clicking and after a few attempts the starter would finally engage; however, now the starter will no longer engage. I am about to tackle removing the starter when I noticed a single female connector that does not appear to be attached to anything. I pulled out the shop manual and in section ST page 4 in item 2 it mentions removing the main battery cable and 'the other'. from terminal 50. I am not clear but it appears it would be in reference to the 22enge than the 3VZ but thought before taking what appears to be a labor intensive task I would check in with more experienced member's for advice.

(Almost) all starters have a main battery cable (heavy, direct to battery w/o any fuses), and a solenoid wire (about 18ga, so much thinner). The solenoid wire is "the other" wire. You have to disconnect them both to remove the starter.

If the solenoid wire ("the other") is disconnected, you won't get a click or anything else. So I'm guessing that's NOT the disconnected connector YOU are seeing. WE can't see it; without a clear photo and good description (location, wire colors, etc.) I don't think anyone can help you.
