Hey i have a 94 4runner bone stock with 480xxxkm on it. its a 3.0l.still runs like a champ. i cant get it threw air care because my hydrocarbons are to high. max allowed .9990 mine are at 1.4300 i have replaced my cat as mine was the factory toyota one and i just ordered a 02 sensor. any ideas would be muchly appreciated.

i know in my brothers 240 he unplug an injector could i try that? also i have heard about retarding the timing?

I wouldn't waste time on voodoo (like disconnecting injectors, changing the timing, or pouring whiskey in the tank).

Here in California, HC limit is now down to 64ppm, but the average passing score is 27. I'll guess BC gives you comparable room, so your 1.4300 is way, way too high. If the 4runner is running correctly you'll have no trouble passing, so start with getting it to run right.

Replacing the catalytic converter and O2 sensor is a very good start (these are almost maintenance items at this point). Check for stored codes (if you have active codes that should flunk you immediately; you want to look for stored codes). Do you have gas measurements other than HC? www.autoshop101.com / technical articles / 56 Emission Analysis will help you understand how the numbers interact.

 

ya its 1.4907g/km

it seems to run fine tho but does have a little sputter out the exhaust but is running on all 6.

ill check the timing and clean the egr valve and make sure there are no lose hoses or anything also a compression test would not hurt..

also i don't know if this is just a toyota thing but when i start up my truck my oil pressure is half way and then ass it warms up it goes to 1/4 is that normal?

It's normal for a worn-out engine, but not for one in good shape. Low oil pressure basically means you have a lot of clearance in the bearings so there's not much resistance to oil flow anymore. Not unexpected for a 480km engine.
