Advice on Mods
Hey everyone I just wanted to get a quick opinion as to what I might need for my truck. It is a 92 DLX stock running 31/10.5/15. I have been on the forums the last coupe of weeks reading and researching and I am still a little lost and looking for some advice.
I purchased this truck to use on our hunting lease in GA to help with the cold ATV rides to the stands in the mornings. our lease was all ag fields mixed with pines and very flat. Well we lost our lease and got a new one but this one is all woods with some decent hills (300ft) and creeks. Not too bad except that when it rains all the red clay roads turn into a slick soup and have some serious washouts. We have had ATVs/ and UTVs stuck out there and was wondering if there would be any mods you could suggest as far as tires/ winch/ suspension/ locker? What would you guys suggest as a starting point? Also this truck is also my daily driver and would need to be able to drive the 7 hours to get to the lease. Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated in pointing me in the right direction. Thanks

35" mud grips boggers if you got the money if your broke like me get some.nanking mudstars or used tires off craigslist, a lockrite locker, about a 8000lb winch or a buddy with a long chain and and a snatch strap

yeah some used km2s or a decent m/t, a lockrite or detroit for the rear and using a hilift as a winch or a warn if you want an electric winch. i wouldnt use a cheap winch. wouldnt want something to mess up and you go flying backwards down a 300ft hill...

Thanks for the responses. The washouts are my main concern as only a few of the bottoms we travel get really nasty with mud and usually only during the rainy season like now, but all the trails a rutted and washed out. So a locker on the rear, winch, Mud terrains and a small suspension lift? Like what maybe 2 inches?

As far as were to start really depends on were your going to end, and how much you want to spend. My 89 wheeled awsome and was road worthy for long trips as well.
It just had a small lift like 1.5'' in the front and 2'' in the rear, 33'' tires 4.88 gears, a rear spool, and winch. It went everywhere, and wasnt as unstable as some of these lifted pickups get.
AS far as a budget build with not much work and great performance.

I'd say 2 inches and you can fit 33's without too much worrying about any rubbing. Any bigger than that and you'll have to start thinking hard about regearing (especially for your 7 hour drive). I run 31's on stock suspension now with no issues. Nothing says you HAVE to run bigger tires with your lift tho. As far as different options on how to do it........everyone has their opinion. If your springs are old and droopy I would avoid add-a-leafs and go with shackles, but don't go more than a couple inches or you worry about pinion angle. You can even make the shackles yourself and not have to pay anything for them. You could do blocks, but I don't like them so I won't recommend them. BJ spacers (along with tweaking the torsion bars) up front are a good/cheap way to go, but I wouldn't suggest adding wheel spacers (if you're thinking about that) along with them. That's a lot of stress on the ball joints.
