Hey guys first time on this site, seems like the best place I can for a quick bit of advice/help. Bought a 1995 4runner from a women off of craigslist almost 2 months ago. V6, 220k miles, not 4wd, etc. Got it relatively cheap, just wanted something to get me started for my first car. Family friend who is a mechanic came with me to look at it before I bought it and said I'd be stupid not to get it. Had some little things he wanted to do, ( change out some hoses, change fluids, new brakes. etc. ) but other than that he said it was a perfect vechicle. Fast forward a week prior to now, car starts having shifting problems. The car itself would start and when in drive the engine would rev really really hard and move very little, slowly it would build up to speed and get going, didn't think much of it, few days later car will not reverse, press down on gas peddle and the engine just revs and doesn't move. Mechanic looked at it, put more transmission fluid in it thinking that was the problem, no dice. Now I'm sitting here, no vehicle to get to work. it'll cost me $1400 to rebuild the transmission as that is what a few people have told me is most likely wrong. My mechanic said that it felt like it was stuck in two gears, park and drive. I have no time or money to get fixed, no knowledge of cars to fix it myself. Should I sell it or try to get it fixed? I know I probably screwed something up, please go easy on me. What should I do here friends?
