94 V6 engine problem. HELP

I have a 94 excab 4x4. I was turning around in the road the other day and she just died never to crank back up! Had a friend come pull me in and it will start being pulled but it will not idle and it runs very rough! I have since changed the fuel filter plugs and wires. It will sometimes diesel after trying to start also. I am getting fire out of the coil but nothin from 3 of the plugs.( i stopped checking after 3) dist cap and rotor look ok. Any help??? Thanks!!

Pull the front timing cover and check the timing marks line up. Possible jumped a tooth or two. Hydraulic/spring tensioner could be getting weak. Check your fuel pressure too.

Check for engine codes FIRST.

Then go from there.

Yeah I got excited. Do this first before you go ripping the engine apart.

How can it run at all if none of the spark plugs are firing?

I assume you pulled the coil-distributor wire and got a spark to ground when cranking. I assume you did the same thing to three plug wires (or plugs), but got NO spark. I would do the same to the other three; if you have 3 plugs firing that could be enough to get it to start and run rough (really rough).

Then if 1/2 of your plugs are firing, the problem is in the plug wires or the distributor.

This will probably throw a code (checking for codes is always something you need to do, and it's easy), but if you can narrow the problem down to WHERE it is you're almost home.

(Incidentally, a jumped tooth on the timing belt will have nothing to do with a "no spark" situation.)

Actually, post #20 contains a link to a ToyotaNation thread ( http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/80...e-posting.html ) . Post #2 in that thread gives a detailed account of how to check codes & what each number means.

if your getting spark to the dizzy, but not to the plugs, I would think that either A) plugs and wires are junk, B) rotor and cap are junk, or C) the dizzy is toast.

Randomly dying

My 1995 4runner would die randomly also and i ended up replacing the EGR valve and that fixed it.
