'94 3VZE... what is this?

What is this?
What does it do?
What service is required (I think the note on it refers to the Air Cleaner to the right).

Couldn't find it in my Chilton manual. It may be called a Breather Filter, but can't find any references to it using search, or google search.

Thanks

The question is with respect to that box, which is not the air filter, but attached to the air filter. Maybe an input from the PCV/crankcase?

Or simply, an intake silencer. It just quiets down the intake and is only a hollow box with no maintenance requirements. Take it off and you gain some throttle response and a whole lot of WROOM! There are write-ups on it everywhere, it's called the ISR (Instake Silencer Removal).

that piece is the air chamber for the PAIR Reed valve.

The Intake Silencer sits behind and below that and has nothing to do with that piece.

100% correct!!!

That air chamber makes the noises from the Reed Valve go away! Believe me without that chamber you WILL hear the reed valve over everything else.

Right... thanks to the responses here, it is clear that this chamber is a resonance chamber (like a series capacitor in an electriical circuit) which bucks the reed valve at the right frequency).

Thank you all again, for bringing clarity to the original question.
