93 4Runner sticking clutch pedal - removed return spring

I've been having some issues with the clutch pedal on my 93 4Runner. It started with the pedal not returning sometimes, and I'd have to pull on it with my foot to get it to release. Then it got worse, to the point where the pedal actually seemed to be getting pulled down if I depressed it just a little. I brought it into the mechanic and he suggested that the clutch return spring and bushings should be replaced. I ordered what I thought were the correct spring and bushings, but they turned out to be the incorrect parts. In the process, I noticed a couple of things. For one, the spring and bushings didn't actually look in all that bad of shape to me, and secondly I realized that if I simply remove the return spring entirely, the pedal seems to behave almost normally. At the very least, the pedal wasn't getting pulled down to the floor the way it was before. It's definitely not quite right though. If I keep my foot on the clutch pedal, for example, it seems like the clutch is actually releasing slowly, and not staying engaged. Any thoughts on what this all might mean would be greatly appreciated!

On a side note, if I did want to purchase a new return spring and bushings, where might I be able to find them? I've searched everywhere online but didn't seem to have any luck.

Does your spring push the peddle back or pull it? What part number is the spring you bought? This is for 96- 02 but may be the same. If it does, then online dealers have it for $20.

That's the part that I bought previously, which was definitely not the correct spring. And I'm not entirely sure about the push vs pull of the spring. It seems to me like the spring is NOT in tension when the pedal is DOWN. Photo attached of the actual spring.

My 86 is a simple regular tension coil spring. That one looks to be a fancy tension spring. It's a just a spring Toyota.

Toyota Parts Deal has this spring and bushing for a 1993 4runner. It looks like my 86 spring,

My OEM parts source dealership replied: 90507-14030 and 90508-35020 are the clutch peddle spring options for a 1993 4Runner. The VIN is required to narrow down the options.

Thanks so much for that info. Strange that neither of those parts appears to match the spring that I removed from my 4Runner though....

Contact Conicelli with your VIN and maybe a picture. They did say it's VIN dependent. They have been for the most part least expensive Toyota OEM parts. I use them when I get OEM parts or need fitment questions. They are good at customer service
